Amarillo's Better Birth Initiative was founded to provide prenatal care to low income women that do not qualify for Medicaid.
Prenatal care is very expensive without insurance. Most clinics require full payment for care up front. Many woman cannot afford full payment and choose to not start care. In 2021, 30% of women that delivered at Northwest Texas Hospital did not have prenatal care.
Founder Silvia Garbalena-Esparza, Certified Nurse Midwife recognized that midwives and midwifery care could be a solution. ABBI was founded in 2022 and will start seeing patients in June of 2022.
Our Mission
Our Mission is to use the Midwifery Model of Care to increase access to prenatal and postpartum care to low income women who do not qualify for Medicaid, and empower women to advocate for informed birth choices to improve neonatal and maternal outcomes.
About The Founder
Silvia Esparza CNM
God has blessed my practice immensely and I am finally able to start helping those in need. But my vision has grown to more than just using my skill to provide a service to the community. It has grown to where I want to use midwifery to improve maternal and neonatal outcomes in the community.
